The State College Series Horse Shows held at Kocher Farms in Penn State, PA, were once again a great success. For the most part, the weather was beautiful and as always, Alex’s Lemonade Stand visisted to collect money towards cancer research. Patty Miller Stables, a show barn run by Patty Miller out of Pipersville, PA, has been attending the Penn State horse shows for years now, and this year, all of the riders added to the farm’s reputation of success at Penn State.
The jumper divisions were home to some new faces, including Bonnie Ascher and Felicia Harrsch. In her jumper debut, Ascher rode Kaitlin Campbell’s Lucy in the Sky to the championship in the Level 3 jumpers the first weekend as well as a 5th in the Child/Adult Jumper Classic. There were no jumpers at the second show, but Ascher and Lucy in the Sky came back for the third show to claim high ribbons in the high children’s division as well as the second place honors in the Child/Adult Jumper Classic, missing first by two tenths of a second. The pair also ended with the Circuit Reserve Grand Champion in the Level 3 Jumpers. Felicia Harrsch rode Patty Miller’s Midnight Majic in her first jumper classes as well, competing in the pony jumpers. The pair took home the Circuit Reserve Grand Champion as well. Mady McMahon and her pony jumper Von Dutch came up for the third show, winning all three classes in the pony jumpers, including the NAL classic, on their way to the championship and the pony style award.
In the pony hunter divisions, Kaitlin Campbell rode her medium pony Undawnted to a championship at the first show and a reserve championship at the second show. With scores of 84 and 84.5, Campbell also topped the Pony Hunter Classic at the third show in the series. Campbell also catchrode Mapleside Magic Dancer for barnmate Rachel Roter. The pair took home two championship honors as well as the Circuit Reserve Grand Pony Hunter Champion . To continue her winning streak, Campbell also rode her own Dawned on Me to the championship in the large pony hunters and consistently high scores in the pony hunter classic. Kyra Rumble also took home some blues, winning the reserve championship honors at the middle show of the series on her medium Hands Up.
The junior hunters were dominated by Kaitlin Campbell and her Play Me Coltrane. They won almost every class they entered, taking home the championship at all three shows as well as the Circuit Grand Champion Junior Hunter award. Rachel Roter rode her junior horse Wizard of Oz to the reserve championship at the second show and collected blue ribbons at the last show as well.
Two pairs dominated the children’s horses during the series. Sarah Broadbent and Riverdance took home the championship in the highly competitive older children’s horses at the second show out of over 23 and took home four out of the five blue ribbons out of over 25 at the third show for the championship once again. As icing on the cake, the team won the NAL Children’s Hunter classic with scores of 85 and 84. They finished with the Circuit Grand Champion award, followed by barnmate Kateyln Kopenhaver and Knee Deep. In their first children’s show together, the pair took home the championship in the younger childrens at the third show, giving them the Circuit Reserve Champion honors. Devon Williams rode Lickity Split to the reserve championship in the large children’s ponies at the first horse show as well.
Megan MCann rode her horse Chesney to the blue in the younger Adult Amateurs, while two short stirrup riders, Ashley Hartman and Bell McMahon, took home high ribbons as well.
