Pony Rides, Petting Area, National Circus Project Highlight Fun Activities
Bridgehampton, NY—July 31, 2006—Kids will get their chance to horse around as free pony rides, special attractions, give-aways and the excitement of international show jumping will highlight the 13th annual Cablevision’s Kids Day at the Hampton Classic Horse Show on Saturday, September 2. The Hampton Classic, one of the nation’s premier hunter-jumper horse shows, returns to Bridgehampton, NY, August 27 - September 3.
“We are thrilled to join with Cablevision to offer families the chance to spend a day together at the horse show,” said Shanette Barth, Hampton Classic Executive Director. “Whether it is eating in the food court, shopping in the Boutique Garden, watching Olympians or young kids compete, or just spending time in the petting area with all the different animals, Cablevision’s Kids Day at the Hampton Classic is the perfect family attraction. There is something for everyone!”
Kids under 12 are admitted to the Hampton Classic free of charge on Cablevision’s Kids Day and each child is entitled to a complimentary pony ride. The day gets started at 10:00 am and continues through late afternoon.
Featured competitions on Cablevision’s Kids Day include the $10,000 Wölffer Estate Equitation Championship, $20,000 SHF Enterprises 5-year-old and $30,000 Split Rock Farm 6-year-old Young Jumper Championship Finals, the $25,000 Sotheby’s International Realty Challenge, the $15,000 WGHR Farm Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumper Classic, and the $2,500 Pony Hunter Classic, sponsored by the Corcoran Group. The Jumper Ring also features the USEF Zone 2 Medal Championship and the Marshall & Sterling $2,500 Adult Amateur and $2,500 Children’s Jumper Classics.
Cablevision’s Kids Day features the National Circus Project where performers teach kids the basics of juggling, plate spinning and stilt walking. Magicians, face painters, Latin dancers and other attractions will keep everyone entertained throughout the day. A “hands-on” art area will be featured where representatives of the Children’s Museum of the East End (CMEE) will be on hand to work with kids on special projects.
In the World of the Horse™ Tent, near the pony rides, kids will find Llamaland, miniature horses, and those big “Teddy Bears of the horse world”— Friesians, even some mares with their foals! Kids will also be able to climb on a special playground installation furnished by Walpole Woodworkers.
Cablevision’s Kids Day has become an annual tradition at the Classic attracting area moms, dads and kids for a day of great equestrian competition and attractions. This year’s entertainment will be presented on The Long Island Parents & Children’s Stage in the Exhibition area.
The Classic culminates on Sunday, September 3, with its main events of the week, the $150,000 Prudential Financial Grand Prix, the $25,000 Calvin Klein Show Jumping Derby and the $10,000 Hermès Hunter Classic.
Those unable to attend the Hampton Classic will have ample opportunity to see it on television. WVVH-TV, the official Long Island television station of the Hampton Classic, will broadcast up to five hours of competition and highlights each day during the Classic. These broadcasts can also be seen online at www.wvvh.com.
Additionally, WCBS-TV/CBS 2 New York, the official New York television station of the Hampton Classic, will broadcast a special one-hour program of Hampton Classic highlights on Saturday, September 9 at 7:00 p.m. The special will feature action from the frontlines, behind the scenes, and colorful social events connected with the Classic.
The Classic will also receive extensive coverage on WLIU 88.3 FM, the official radio station of the Hampton Classic. WLIU will broadcast updates daily throughout the Classic as well as live programs from the Classic on Sunday, August 27 and Saturday-Sunday, September 2-3.
Competition runs from Sunday, August 27 through Sunday, September 3. Admission is $10 per person or $20 per carload, with children under 6 admitted free. Admission is free for all on Monday, seniors are free on Thursday and kids are free on Saturday. Reserved grandstand seating for Sunday, September 3 is $15 per person (in addition to regular admission) or $25 per person in the special Premium Seating center sections. Parking is free throughout the week.
