Lexington, KY - Although it was a rainy day in Kentucky, it did not effect the main event, an evening indoor affair that wound up having a great turnout.
Prior to the start of the evening competition, the United States World Equestrian Games Silver Medal Squad from Aachen, Germany consisting of Jeffery Welles, Beezie Madden, McLain Ward and Margie Engle were recognized by both Kentucky Horse Park President John Nicholson, and 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games CEO Jack Kelly.
The $50,000 Hagyard CSI-W Lexington Grand Prix. was a FEI Table A, Art. 2381.2 and Art. 655.2 of the FEI World Cup rules (Time First Jump-off).
Course designer Conrad Homfeld was in charge of creating the track for tonight’s event that saw forty-two horse and rider combinations come to the in gate. Only four were able to successfully complete the first round course over thirteen fences with sixteen jumping efforts.
Beezie Madden and Integrity, were the first to go clear. Lauren Hough, who was next to go made it look easy with Casadora producing the second clear round of the evening. No one again managed to co clear until Chris Kappler and VDL Oranta, in the twenty-ninth position joined Madden and Hough. Kate Levy, riding thirty-eighth, on Vent Du Nord produced the fourth clear of the evening.
In the Jump Off, Madden and Integrity were first to go. With just a rail at 5B they crossed the finish line with 4 faults in a time of 41.44.
Lauren Hough, was next to go, and with a cautious but clear ride, she finished in 42.60 seconds to take over the lead with two riders yet to come.
Kappler and VDL Oranta managed the early course without problrms but had a rail in the home stretch run to finish with four faults in 41.85 seconds.
Levy and Vent Du Nord ran into multiple problems and finished with eight jumping and seventeen time faults in 63.05 seconds.
