The final day of Britain’s biggest indoor equestrian Show got off to a flying start with the Grandstand Media Cup which saw Britain’s William Funnell from Ockley, Surrey taking first place on Cortaflex Amber Du Montois in a double clear round only 0.13 seconds ahead of Geoff Luckett on Compliment 2 and 1.39 seconds ahead of the grand maestro, John Whitaker on Hugo Du Heup in a double clear round.

18 year old Nicole Pavitt from Godalming, Surrey took first and second places in the Top Tack International HOYS Grade C riding Amarryllis VD Heffink and Maestro de Rend Peine. Nicole and her horses were placed in almost every national class throughout the week but waited until her final class to score an impressive victory as well as claiming second place with less than a second between them. Peter White and Santafee III followed closely only 0.14 seconds behind in third place.
Golden girl Ellen Whitaker’s younger sixteen year old brother, Thomas, from Barnsley in South Yorkshire claimed his biggest win of his show jumping career today at Horse of the Year Show winning the San Antonio Equitacion Leading Junior Show Jumper of the Year on Miami Bound in only 32.31 seconds. Scotland’s James Smith and Mr Nice Guy and 12 year old Pippa Allen and Spot the Lady 0.06 of a second behind in third place.
Britain’s leading lady rider, Ellen Whitaker, rode an impressive round on Henri de Here in The Speed Horse of the Year class this afternoon cutting corners to shave seconds off her time wherever possible. Although one pole down, Ellen’s strategy paid off as she was placed first with a time of 49.63 seconds. A fast but not quite fast enough, Geoff Luckett claimed second place on Marleen in 49.81 seconds followed by Billy Twomey riding Whinny Jackson in 51.21 seconds.

This evening saw the climax of top class show jumping with some of the world’s best competing in the tack365.com Leading Show Jumper of the Year. A complex and demanding course challenged the riders with only five British riders (out of the 13 clears) going through to the second round. In this phase, Billy Twomey riding Anastasia III had the first clear round and lead the field until American competitor Laura Kraut on Anthem, second to last to go, rode an exhilarating round to take first place. Laura was ecstatic to win the most prestigious show jumping class at the Show and even more delighted to be presented with the Leading Lady award.
