HARRODSBURG, KY.—JAN. 3, 2007— Robbi Meisel, President of Flashpoint Media Services, is pleased to announce that Jessie Nelson Collins, founder and operator of the Illinois-based Equis Productions, has joined FMS as the Director of Video Services.
Nelson Collins met Meisel when Equis, a full-service video imaging company for the equestrian industry, covered the Traders Point Charity Horse Show in Zionsville, IN., in August 2006. Meisel was preparing for the fall launch of Flashpoint Media Services, a PR division of her nationally ranked equestrian event photography company-Flashpoint Photography, which she runs with her husband Greg. Meisel immediately saw Jessie as a natural addition. “We not only hit it off, but we felt like we’d known each other for years,” says Meisel. “Jessie’s obsession with excellence is as fanatical as ours. We’re a perfect fit!”
Clearly, the philosophy of Flashpoint and Equis were one in the same: “We strive to provide the highest quality Video to everyone and anyone,” says Nelson Collins. “We care about our clients—they are our No. 1 priority.”
Nelson Collins began her career as camera operator at a local TV news station in Illinois in the mid 90s. For eight years she covered breaking-news prior to becoming an imaging, promotion, and branding specialist for ABC and CBS affiliates across the United States.
A lifelong horsewoman (“I still watch a bad movie because it has a horse it in, she notes.”), Nelson Collins formed Equis Productions in 2004 after realizing that professional quality video for individual equestrian competitors and trainers simply didn’t exist. “I was at a show taping a horse for a neighbor, “ says Nelson Collins, “and not only did I enjoy it, but I realized that people were lining up to buy footage that was just terrible.” The turning point for Equis came when Tommy McIntyre, head of Equine Productions, hired Nelson Collins to officially shoot at venues in St Louis, and eventually Knoxville and Atlanta, among others. “The business went from just me and a poor camera to two full-time employees (Nelson Collins’s husband Patrick, and lead videographer Joanna Hagen) and four state-of-the-art machines,” she says. For the last year, Equis has covered both Hunter-Jumper and Dressage events across the country.
As part of the Flashpoint team, Nelson Collins and her Equis partners will continue to do what they do best: provide professional level imaging to industry, whether it’s a sale-horse video, a record of show and clinic performances, or the chronicle of a Grand Prix. Services include immediate, same-day rough cuts and polished, edited DVDs.
Equis will also be creating DVDs and electronic press kits for FMS clients in the coming months.
Nelson Collins currently resides in East Moline, Ill., with her husband, two dogs and two horses: RuffKutt Rebellion, an Arab—“and my forever best friend and love of my life, and my husband knows it”, she says, and Eddie, a rescued Thoroughbred.
