Pin Oak Charity Horse Show Reigns In 62 Years of Community Support

March 21- April 1, 2025 Great Southwest Equestrian Center Presented by Compass Bank Wealth Management Group

HOUSTON – Some of the most celebrated equestrians in the world will return to Houston this spring for the 62nd Pin Oak Charity Horse Show. Scheduled for March 21 through April 1, 2007, the Pin Oak Charity Horse Show will take place at Great Southwest Equestrian Center, 2501 South Mason Road in Katy. Marking its 62nd year, the Pin Oak Charity Horse Show is one of the nation’s oldest and most respected horse shows drawing international riders in a spectacular show of Olympic-qualifying equestrian competitions and Grand Prix events.

This long-standing Texas tradition is celebrated for not only for it’s spectacular record of equestrian sport and showmanship, but also for its decades of support to Houston children’s charities, says Pin Oak President Lynn Walsh.

“We are thrilled to welcome another season of support for Houston children and their families,” said Lynn Walsh, President of the Pin Oak Charity Horse Show. “The combination of spectacular equestrian sport, family fun and children’s charities is a winning combination and a tradition we are proud to continue.”

Walsh says the growth of the Pin Oak Charity Horse Show can be attributed to its strong base of support from many sectors.

“Pin Oak’s success is founded in the relationships we keep - from our dedicated volunteers to our sponsors who recognize the importance of our work in the community. We are delighted that Compass Bank Wealth Management joins our family as Presenting Sponsor this year,” said Walsh.

“We are very pleased to support the Pin Oak Charity Horse Show,” said Rick Terry, Executive Vice President of Compass Bank Wealth Management Group. “Compass takes pride in an unequalled level of community support as part of our ongoing commitment to the cities we serve. We share Pin Oak’s interest and concern for children and look forward to helping Pin Oak achieve new records of support for Texas Children’s Hospital and Ronald McDonald House of Houston.”

Founded in 1945 at J.S. Abercrombie’s Pin Oak Stables, the annual show became a highlight of Houston’s social season, drawing Hollywood stars, entertainers and political leaders. In 1948, Pin Oak began a long-term commitment to raise funds to construct, and later support, Texas Children’s Hospital, which opened in Houston in 1954. During the next three decades, “Mr. Jim” Abercrombie, Leopold Meyer, the Junior League and a group of dedicated Houstonians established Pin Oak as one of the preeminent horse shows in the nation, attracting as many as 60,000 visitors, and enabling the Association to contribute to date over $3 million to worthy causes including Texas Children’s Hospital and Ronald McDonald House of Houston.

“This is the premier equestrian event in the southwest United States,” said Walsh. “No other show in the world features more breeds than the Pin Oak Charity Horse Show.” More than 13 breeds and over 1300 horses will compete at this year’s show including American Saddlebreds, Hackney ponies, Roadsters, Welsh Ponies, Andalusians and hunters and jumpers.

Highlights of the Pin Oak Charity Horse Show include the International Grand Prix, the first leg of the Texas Triple Crown – a series of 3 Grand Prix Show Jumping competitions with $30,000 going to top riders and their steeds. The Grand Prix is a sanctioned U.S. Equestrian Team event and an Olympic qualifying competition, which will attract riders from Mexico, Canada, South America and Europe. Record Donation in 2006
In 2006, Pin Oak contributed over $100,000 to Texas Children’s Hospital and Ronald McDonald House of Houston.

“We have always been proud of the extraordinary sponsors, exhibitors, volunteers and board members that comprise the Pin Oak team, but today that pride has numbers, “ said Walsh. “We are delighted with this contribution to our charities - an achievement that is unparalleled in our area and in our state.”

Founded in 1945 by Houston philanthropist James S. Abercrombie and his wife Lillie, the Pin Oak Charity Horse Show has raised more than $3.4 million for local children’s charities including Texas Children’s Hospital and Ronald McDonald House of Houston. The Pin Oak Charity Horse Show is a 501-C 3 organization, and a member of the USEF “AA” Rated Texas Hunter Jumper Association, an American Hunter/Jumper Federation World Championship Hunter Rider Event, and part of the NAL and Washington International Horse Show qualifying series.
