BURBANK, CA - Riding For Reading is pleased to announce that the University of Southern California’s Trojan Equestrian Team has signed up to help Riding For Reading. The USC Equestrian Team will help the non-profit literacy organization with its book drives. Last year, Riding For Reading placed more than 2,000 donated used books back into the communities of Burbank and North Hollywood. “The need for used books is huge,” said Riding For Reading President Marnye Langer. “Some schools just have a book cart,” added Lauren Carlson, a director of Riding For Reading. “Senior centers, youth organizations, homeless shelters, and hospitals all need used books.”
The USC Equestrian Team wanted to get more involved in their local community and helping Riding For Reading made sense. The Trojans will help coordinate the book drives and make sure the donated books get back into the local community. Because of the involvement of the Trojan’s, the Riding For Reading book drives will be held at shows at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center and shows at Hansen Dam Equestrian. “Hopefully this is a model we can use as we expand our Riding For Reading events to other locations,” said Langer.
To kick off their involvement, the USC Trojans are holding a book drive in conjunction with their fundraiser barbecue and live auction on January 27, 2026 at the Rockin’ W Ranch, their home facility in Shadow Hills, California. The funds raised will be used to help fund the team at their Intercollegiate Horse Show Association competitions. In 2006, the Hunt Seat riders earned the Regional Championship for Zone 8, Region 2 of IHSA. This year, with more than 30 riders, the team is fielding both a competitive Hunt Seat squad and a Western Horsemanship squad.
Hodges Badge Company is a national sponsor of Riding For Reading, and both the Equus Foundation and the United States Hunter Jumper Association have provided grants. Riding For Reading has also received donations from various individuals.
LEG Up News provides media services to Riding For Reading, and helps the organization promote its worthwhile literacy activities. Additional information on the non-profit literacy organization is at www.ridingforreading.org.
