Jill Henselwood Named CAVALOR ‘Athlete of the Month’ for February

Ottawa, Ontario — Jill Henselwood of Oxford Mills, ON, has been named the CAVALOR ‘Athlete of the Month’ for February following her victory on the HITS Desert Circuit in Thermal, California.

Henselwood won the $75,000 Footing Authority Grand Prix during the HITS Desert Circuit III on Sunday, February 11, after topping a three-horse jump-off. Her partner was Callisto, a 14-year-old Dutch Warmblood mare owned by Equine Canada. Formerly owned by Juniper Farms, Callisto was donated to the national federation through the Equine Canada Horse Donation Program in December of 2006.

Other notable results for Henselwood during the month of February included a third place finish in the $30,000 Ariat Grand Prix during HITS Desert Circuit II with her 2006 World Equestrian Games mount, Special Ed, and a third place finish with Callisto in the $30,000 Ariat Grand Prix held during HITS Desert Circuit IV.

“California has gone really well so far, I guess I’m on a bit of a roll,” smiled Henselwood, who is developing young horses and training students in addition to competing at the Grand Prix level. “Winning the final grand prix of the first half of the HITS circuit was a real thrill.”

In recognition of her achievement, Henselwood will receive a gift certificate from CAVALOR, the new title sponsor of the ‘Athlete of the Month’ program.

“I am honoured that Jump Canada has chosen me as the CAVALOR ‘Athlete of the Month’ in recognition of my efforts. It is definitely the icing on the cake,” said Henselwood.
