CHARLOTTE JUMPER CLASSIC BEGINS TODAY

More than 150 equine athletes were “unloaded” in the center of Uptown yesterday to compete in the Charlotte Jumper Classic, beginning today, April 13, 2025 at 6:00 p.m. The competition pits Olympians and the top-ranked riders in the world against each other in 10 classes of intense competition culminating with the prestigious $200,000 Charlotte Grand Prix on Sunday.

Charlotte Jumper Classic riders compete against the clock and jump an obstacle course of between 15-20 fences set on a twisting, turning course with the goal of not dropping a rail or falling off the horse. If more than one rider has a clear round a jump off is held – the equestrian equivalent to sudden death overtime. The rider with the fastest time and the fewest jumping faults is declared the winner.

Today’s session begins at 6:00 p.m. and features an International and Adult Competition, as well as amateurs competing. Saturday, April 13 is Kids day and the first 3,000 kids will receive a FREE Charlotte Jumper Classic coloring and activity book. The afternoon session begins at 1:00 p.m. with the Adult Speed Stake and Top Score competition. A horse and rider clinic for kids follows the afternoon session where kids can learn how to care for a horse and what it takes to compete in show jumping. The evening session on Saturday begins at 7:00 p.m. and includes a class for the top Amateur-Owners and the Charlotte Welcome Stake. Grand Prix Sunday, April 15, kicks off at 2:00 p.m. with the Charlotte Adult Jumper Classic and ends with the exciting Grand Prix of Charlotte where riders will compete for a $200,000 purse. A full competition and entertainment schedule follows.
