Spruce Grove, Alberta’s Lisa Carlsen road the 12-year-old Canadian Warmblood Gelding Woody to victory today at Spruce Meadows in the Scotia Macleod Grand Prix.
Carlsen claimed the victory in a two horse jump off to conclude the 2007 Spruce Meadows “May Classic” Tournament, to launch the outdoor season at Spruce Meadows.
Thirty one horse rider combinations started the Scotia Macleod Grand-Prix. But only two could master the technically demanding course to advance to the jump off. Tamie Phillips of Calgary riding Lucas finished a close second to Carlsen with the final standings determined by jump-off time.
The field for the Scotia Macleod Grand Prix featured an interesting mix of veterans and newcomers and included; Olympic, World Championship, Pan American Games and World Cup Veterans.

This year’s “May Classic” Tournament at Spruce Meadows featured a reload entry in excess of young horses and set the stage for the upcoming Spruce Meadows FEI Season witch will offer over $6 million in prize money and attract top athletes from around the world.
The $1 million Spruce Meadows “National” Tournament begins June 6th and will feature the Canadian Team selection trials for the Pan American Games. It will also feature the CN Reliability Grand Prix and the all new NEXEN Cup Derby.
