I need Help

I just bought this horse, her name is Bobby. Really sweet horse, but the only thing is i can not figure out how to keep her head lowered. I don’t think she is on the bit but I am open to any and all suggetions to help us out.

Thank you for your help,

Do you have any experience with draw reins?

Draw reins are your best bet. But If used improperly they can do more harm then help. If youre not sure, have a trainer you trust and admire show you how to properly use them. Just remember, funnelling the horses head down and into your hands never works, as soon as you lift your hands to the proper spot the horse will lift its head too. You have to remember that your horse can feel every movement and if your making a fuss, they can’t concentrate on what youre asking. Try having soft contact with the mouth, and just slightly bend the horse to the inside. Then with your outside hand ask your horse to lower its head and come into a frame by working your fingers (like your squeezing an orange in your hand) to gently massage their mouth. Remember it takes time to teach a horse something and its not going to correct itself over night. But as soon as your horse does what you ask, REWARD them immediatly by releasing some of the pressure. They might come out of frame a step later, but keep asking and rewarding and they will learn. If you dont reward them, they wont know they did what you asked. And if your working on something, and not getting a response, try something else or a new approach to asking for it.
