HJN’s phenomenal growth continues as site statistics are off the charts in May - up for the 13th month running

HorseSports Media’s HunterJumperNews.com increased its viewer base for the 13th consecutive month. The site which operates primarily as a consolidator of World Wide Hunter Jumper News attributes its continued double-digit growth to its acceptance in the community as a “fee free” aggregator of hunter jumper news.

“The HJN community has always had an insatiable thirst for information about what is happening in the community,” stated HJN Editor John Redfern. “Over the past few years that community has become global in size. The traditional approach of in-depth selected coverage of events by a single individual or group is no longer a viable cost effective one. The need to offer coverage from a variety of vantage points gives HJN its strength.”

HJN offers show managers as well as press agents an opportunity to promote their events and clients to a global audience. HJN also provides its consolidated RSS feed to a number of news groups including Yahoo and most recently the 2010 World Equestrian Games.

HunterJumperNews is experiencing phenomenal growth within the Equestrian Community. Figures just release by Alexa (http://www.alexa.com) for June indicate that HJN is dominating the Equestrian News market in all major categories.

Alexa, an independent web information services company, computes traffic rankings for all internet web sites. The traffic rankings are computed by analyzing Web usage of millions of users. The information is sorted, sifted, counted, and computed, until, finally, they get the traffic rankings shown in the Alexa service.

Reach measures the number of users a website is attracting. Reach is typically expressed as the percentage of all Internet users who visit a given site. So, for example, if a site like yahoo.com has a reach of 28%, this means that of all global Internet users measured by Alexa, 28% of them visit yahoo.com.

Alexa’s one-week and three-month average reach are measures of daily reach, averaged over the specified time period. The three-month change is determined by comparing a site’s current reach with its values from three months ago.

In Reach, HJN over the past 3 months has experienced a growth rate of 350%. During that same period of time, Membership sites, were experiencing a negative growth rate. As an example, according to Alexa, HJN during the past three months had a viewing audience that was 45 times greater than that of PhelpsSports.com, a Membership Site. HJN is now ranked 974,351. Phelps Sports is ranked 2,232,844

“Fee based communities in general are having a difficult time making it on the Internet.”, stated Redfern who was former President of Towerheads.com, a Membership based service that became “fee free” when it was acquired by HorseSports Media in 2006.

“The viability of the community model is largely based on user loyalty. In the Equestrian Community, the aging out process complicates this issue. It means that you have to constantly remarket just to maintain your current user base. User loyalty quickly vanishes when the information is no longer relevant to the user or is readily available elsewhere without fee. Experience at Towerheads shows that it is difficult to get and maintain a data base of more than a few thousand users.”

Of the almost 18,000 unique individuals visiting HJN monthly, about Forty-Six percent (46.2%) are in the United States. The balance is spread out across all of the continents with the Europe Union taking second place.
