Lou Jacobs Sweeps Top Two Places in High Amateur-Owner Speed Stake
Lake Placid, NY—June 29, 2007—Todd Minikus of Loxahatchee, FL rode Olinda to victory in the $25,000 Turtle Lane Farm Open Jumper Classic CSI 3* at the 38th annual Lake Placid Horse Show.
Minikus, one of the four riders chosen to represent the U.S. in show jumping in the Pan American Games at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil later this summer, was one of 10 entries to qualify for a tiebreaking jump-off by riding without penalty over the 16-jump first-round course at the North Elba Showgrounds. The 2001 U.S. Equestrian Federation (USEF) Horseman of the Year who won Lake Placid’s Hérmes Grand Prix in 2004 then completed the eight-jump tiebreaker without fault in 34.45 seconds to claim the win.
McLain Ward of Brewster, NY, 2004 Olympic team Gold medalist, placed second on Pinkata de Longpre after finishing the jump-off fault-free in 35.69 seconds. Margie Engle of Wellington, FL and Christine McCrea of Suffield, CT had the only other clean rides in the jump-off to place third and fourth respectively. Engle finished in 35.78 seconds Hidden Creek’s Calippo 12 and McCrea finished in 37.38 seconds.
Following the Classic, Lou Jacobs of East Aurora, NY swept the top two places in the High Amateur-Owner Speed Stake. Jacobs won the one-round class with a clean ride in 54.026 seconds on Soleil and also placed second with a clean ride in 54.483 seconds on Kachina.
The 2007 Lake Placid Horse Show concludes Sunday with the $75,000 Budweiser Grandprix of Lake Placid CSI 3*, presented by RV Sales of Broward. The 30th annual I Love New York Horse Show, highlighted by the $60,000 Hermès Grandprix CSI 3* on Saturday, July 7, follows at the same site, July 3-8.
