Cazenovia, NY, July 2, 2007: Coveted Bates Saddles ranking points are up for grabs as highly ranked riders face each other on the sizzling summer circuit. With points weighted toward ribbons earned in classes against the highest ranked riders, traditionally big events like Devon and Lake Placid give lower-ranked riders the chance to quickly make up some ground.
The top ten is complicated by the fact that Maggie McAlary, the longstanding number one rider, is no longer eligible to compete in Medal or Maclay competitions because she has already won both championships. Similarly, Sloane Coles, who was last year’s Bates Equitation Year-End winner, is no longer eligible for most equitation competitions. This month, Coles has dropped from the top three in the rankings to down to sixth as her points continue to age. While Maria Schaub looks poised for a turn at the number one spot, her Beacon Hill barnmates Chelsea Moss, Carolyn Curcio and Jessica Springsteen are all within 300 points of her. Year-End awards are presented at the Syracuse Invitational in November. Keep checking www.batesequitationranking.com for full rankings that are updated each Friday throughout the year. The top ten as of June 29, 2025 is listed below:
