Spruce Meadows “North American” 2007 Edition

(SPRUCE MEADOWS, Calgary, AB): The 2007 Spruce Meadows Summer Tour is coming to an end. The bustle of Spruce Meadows will leave until September. However, the Tour does have one last hurrah, and it’s a big hurrah at that. The Spruce Meadows “North American” Tournament is the final leg of the Summer Tour and rider have one last chance to win big at Spruce Meadows.

While sport is the centre point of the $1 Million Spruce Meadows “North American”, the grand finale of the Spruce Meadows Summer Tour offers so much more in terms or tradition, pageantry, entertainment and family fun.

First a look at the sporting drama that is sure to unfold over the next five days; the story line quickly turns to Canadian Eric Lamaze who will be heading to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil for the Pan American Games shortly after. Lamaze has been having a great tour, winning over $90,000 so far this summer and is officially a member of the Spruce Meadows $1 million club.

Lauren Hough has also returned to Spruce Meadows victorious after a year’s absence. Hough has staked claim to the first leg of the CN Precision Series after winning the CN Reliability Grand Prix. The American will look to continue her success by winning the ATCO Power Queen Elizabeth II Cup and earning a $50,000 bonus as part of the CN Precision Series.

As some riders make final preparations for the Pan American Games after the Spruce Meadows “North American” Tournament they will be looking to tune up their game and be better than ever before. This is especially important to the Canadians who will need to medal in order to have a spot at the 2008 Olympics.

Outside the competitive arena, the Spruce Meadows North American has evolved into a spectacular celebration that is rich in tradition, pageantry and entertainment. This year’s edition has all of the ingredients to march in the “first rank”.

Visitors can wander the grounds in its full summer splendor and enjoy the tranquility of the park-like setting or the fervor of the Spruce Meadows Prairie Dogs.

The Spruce Meadows Plaza will be a bustle of activity for the Spruce Meadows “North American” Tournament. Behind each door there will be something new for you and your family to experience.

The Horizons Pavilion will feature famed Alberta Artist Roland Gissing: The Peoples’ Painter. The exhibition has been put together by Gissing’s grand-daughter Kori Gregory, and each painting captures the essence of the Alberta Prairies.

Each day military and civil service bands will perform on the stages of the International Plaza. They will keep with the “Military” Theme featured at this years “North American” Tournament.

There is a lot going on at Spruce Meadows this week and with it will come some fun for everyone!
