Markus Fuchs (SUI) wins the Santander Challenge
For the first time Brazil hosted a CSI - 5 stars, one of the stages of the Global Champions Tour, with over 1 million Dollar in awards and the best riders and horses in the world were competing. The 1st Athina Onassis International Horse Show - Sao Paulo 2007 – took place in the premises of Sociedade Hípica Paulista and invited the main participant teams of the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, as well as a number of European’s best riders.
“Equestrian sports symbolize respect and friendship and offer a very valuable means of education”, stated San Palo’s 5 star spokesman Athina Onassis de Miranda. “I’m positive that Athina Onassis International Horse Show - Sao Paulo 2007 – brings hope to the aspiration of thousands of young riders and horsewomen all over Brazil and, I wish the Global Champions Tour and all the participant events, success in their future aspirations of creating a long-lasting change in equestrian sports”.
In the Santander Challenge with an incredible time of 39.66, Markus Fuchs and Royal Charmer bested Irelands Jessica KUrten by more than 2 seconds. Mexico’s Santiago Lambre riding Curant finished 3rd.

The main event of the day was the Nestle Masters. The competition began with 41 riders, all seeking the prize Trophy Aristóteles Onassis and 250,000 Euros. After the initial rouund, 12 riders were clear and qualified for the jump-off, including American Lauren Hough and Canada’s Eric Lamaze:

Six riders managed to go clear again in the jump off, but John Whitaker(GBR) managed to edge out Lauren Hough and Cassadora by .17 seconds to take the win.
