VALKENSWAARD, August 19th 2007. The final day of the Horse Festival Valkenswaard again had Dutch success. The Dutch national anthem was the last one played and was a fitted end for two weekends of good showjumping sport.
In the Young Horse class 36 combinations started, of which 15 advanced to the jump off.
No less then five combinations in the jump off were Dutch. Balasz Krusco (HUN) was the fastest with KN Costa Rica (Corrado I x Concerto II ) in 34.64 seconds. Nadine Traber (SUI) became second with Maeve de Kergane (Gold de Becourt x Arpege Pierreville) in 35.00 seconds. Third place was for Philippe Rozier (FRA), who ended with Lauterbach (Landor S x Contender) in 36.93 seconds.
The victory in the 1.35m Small Tour was, like yesterday, for Philippe Rozier (FRA). With Ideal du Roy (Quidam de Revel x Grand Veneur) he was the fastest combination, in a jump off with 14, in 28.89 seconds. Runner-up was for the Netherlands, Wout-Jan van der Schans and Remember O (Lancelot x Pericles) in 29.87 seconds, followed by Wil Schellekens (NED) with Candlelight Z (Caretano Z x Lux) in 30.45 seconds.
The 1.35m Medium Tour was, after a jump off with 10 combinations, won by Yves Houtackers (NED) with Salvador (Sir Holtrup x Gentleman) in 39.48 seconds. Kristof Cleeren (BEL) came second with Sea Coast Silvana (Corland x Widor). Third place went to Mathijs van Asten (NED) with Chester Z (Calvaro Z x Rebel II Z) in 39.86 seconds.
In the Grand Prix 55 riders appeared at the start. Fourteen combinations were clear and competed in the jump off for 25.000 euros. Leon Thijssen (NED) won the final Grand Prix of the Horse Festival. With the twelve year old gelding Nairobi (Larno x Renville ) he was clear in 36.76 seconds. Henk v.d. Pol ensured a double Dutch success by finishing second with Rhodos (by Voltaire) in 38.89 seconds. Malin Baryard (SWE) finished, after her win in the Big Tour on Friday, in third place today with H&M Espri (Guinnes x Good Fortune) in 38.97 seconds .
In the Special Invitational Class 1.15m – 1.25 the first place went to Jessica Arene Duquesne (FRA). Second place went to Jane Davies and Joanne Sloane Allen (IRL) was third. The first place in the Special Invitational Class 1.35m went, with a very fast time, to Belgian Bart Soetaers, who also finished in third position. Second place was for Jane Davies (GBR). In the Brigitta Sueters Prix du Vainqueur ranking Jane Davies and Jessica Arene Duquesne share first place after the first two weeks.
The Horse Festival Valkenswaard had the last two weekends almost double the amount of visitors then in the years before. The organisation is sure this development will continue for the coming weekend. The International Concours Valkenswaard will take place from 23rd till 26th of August and is the sixth leg of the Global Champions Tour.
