Opera star was a great friend of the equestrian sport and a Member of the Aachen School of Course Design´s Honorary Committee
Professor Dr. Arno Gego, international course designer and founder of the “Aachen School of Course Design“, grieves for his friend Luciano Pavarotti. At the age of 71, the Italian opera star died this morning due to cancer.
Gego and Pavarotti had known each other since the early 1990s. “At that time, we jointly established an international jumping tournament in Modena“, remembers Gego, who acted as course designer and tournament director at the CSIO San Marino, later CSIO Modena. Since this time they have stayed in contact and talked to each other on the phone frequently. Due to Pavarotti´s grave illness, Gego lately kept in touch with Luciano´s wife, Nicoletta Mantovani. “He´s fighting”, she just recently told Gego about her 71 year-old husband.
The Italian was closely connected with equestrian sports, was acquainted with several riders and officials. He supported the “Aachen School of Course Design“ as member of the Honorary Committee. Pavarotti owned a large riding stable near Modena. “With Luciano, the equestrian sport loses a great friend and supporter”, said Professor Arno Gego.
