Sandy Point Stables - Riders and Activities

I wanted to share with you some of the activities of Sandy Point Stables Barn Riders and also point out some of our “Other Activities”.

Quinn Traendly

Quinn had a successful year last year showing her Children’s Hunter “Semi-Formal”. She’s looking forward to focusing on equitation this year. She got her feet wet in the equitation last year competing in the Rhode Island Equitation Finals (she won the RI Horsemanship class in ’05) as well as qualifying for the NE Finals and getting a top ribbon there in the Open Equitation class. She is currently leasing the famous “Carlos” and will be moving on to Jhoncorde in May.

Lauren Withers

This year, Lauren will be showing her very nice pony, “Jumpin’ Jack Flash” a pony we found in Canada. She ended last year by winning the SPS Pony Medal Final. Lauren was Champion of the Children’s Hunter Pony division last weekend and is looking forward to a good season with “Jake”. Lauren is one to always take the opportunity to hack an extra horse. This extra time in the saddle is paying off!

Michelle Gallipeau

Michelle had a great year last year with her pony “Berylyn Tamarac”. Her many wins included champion of the Zone 1 children’s Equitation Challenge and Reserve Champion Zone 1 Children’s Hunter Pony Challenge. Michelle is currently leasing “Right On Red” and has already qualified for the Finals at MHC, MHJ, Rhode Island and SEHA. She’ll be showing this year primarily in the Open Equitation 12-14, children’s Equitation and Children’s Hunters.

This Sunday, March 26, there is a show scheduled at the Stables. If you are in the neighborhood, stop by and see us. We serve the best Sunday Breakfast Sandwich found anywhere.

Summer Camp

From June 19th to August 18th, we run a summer camp at Sandy Point. The camp runs in two week sesssions and goes from 9am - 1pm, Monday to Friday. Campers will be introduced to the many aspects of horsemanship and horse care that they would not ordinarily learn in their regular lesson program. They will be given the responsibility of caring for our camp horses and ponies throughout the season. In addition to the Camper’s Shows, our campers will have the opportunity to see a horse being shod, show horses, riders preparing for shows and many other fun and interesting things.

This year we are pleased to have Jen Mitchell as our lead counselor. Last year our campers showed great enthusiasm in riding, learning about horsemanship, veterinary care and horse shows. As always the highlight of the sessions will be a Camper’s Horse Show at the end of each two-week session.

It’s a perfect experience for ages 7 - 15.

I love the barn - it brings you back in time, what a great palce to hang out on a Sunday afternoon. Horses all aroundand and of course Bagel. I’ll have to take in some showa and food. Really nice kids and horses too.

Looks like a great place! I loved Summer camp at the barns growing up. What a great way to spend a few weeks!

We need a “grown up” summer camp!

That is one of the most beautiful stables I’ve ever seen. So much character! We will have to go and check it out one weekend since we do live in Rhode Island!
