A young United States show jumping team won the Nations Cup (La Caja Prize) in convincing fashion on the second day of the 9th Haras El Capricho international horse show. Heavy rains at times threatened the competition, but ceased halfway into the event.
Under the guidance of U.S. Chef d’Equipe George Morris, the US Team consisting of Libby McKinney, 25, of Green Farms, Conn. with her mount Gun du Desfi, Hilary Dobbs, 19 of Sussex, N.J. aboard Quincy B, Charlie Jayne, 21 of Elgin, Ill. with his mount Urbanus and Brianne Goutal, 19 of New York, N.Y. riding Casar captured the Nations Cup at CSIO Buenos Aires, Argentina.
For all but Goutal, it was the first experience representing the United States. Brianne, competed in this event last year and was part of that winning team with a strong ride aboard Cloverleaf Farm’s Onira, accumulating 4 faults in Round 1 and fault free in Round 2.
Second place went to Chile (Joaquín Larrain, Bernardo Naveillán, Américo Simonetti and Samuel Parot), with 13 faults. Third place wasArgentina 1 (Matías y Justo Albarracín, Martín Dopazo and Hugo Dircie), with 16 faults. Fourth, Argentina 2; and fifth, Brazil.
