British Show Jumpers off to strong start
Anky van Grunsven (NED) and IPS Salinero demonstrated why they are Number 1 as they ran away with the grand prix dressage yesterday with 78.042%. Great Britain’s Laura Bechtolsheimer and Mistral Hojris finished in second place (75.33%) and the Netherlands Aat van Essen and Premier were third.
Tonight Anky and Salinero will debut their new kür, a classical piece that has been composed by Wibi Soerjadi.
Second place finisher Laura Bechtolsheimer scored a personal best of 75.33%. This is the highest score that any British rider has ever achieved in international grand prix. She produced consistent eights from all five judges and no big mistakes.

British Show Jumpers off to strong start
The opening evening at Olympia’s Show Jumping Championships saw British riders take first place in both events.
In the first event, the Dodson & Horrell Welcome Speed Stake, Robert Smith aboard Kalusha bested Leon Thijssen (NED) and Oxford D’Esquelmes by 0.8 seconds. Marcus Ehning (Ger) and For Fun finished in third position.

The major class of the evening, the Martin Collins International Christmas Stakes, produced an 11-horse jump-off, in which Michael Whitaker’s riding Suncal Portofino emerged the victor
Michael was pleased with his ride. “In her past four classes, she had two firsts, one second and a third,” he said.
