Jumping International de Bordeaux - February 1-3, 2008

The French leg of the Rolex/FEI show jumping World Cup will take place in Bordeaux. Bordeaux has hosted “World Cup” events ever since the competition started in 1978, thirty years ago! In 2006, Bordeaux became the only French event on the prestigious Federation Equestre International circuit. This season’s dates: February 1st to 3rd.

With four events counting towards the Rolex/FEI global ranking, including the Rolex/FEI World CupTM Qualifier and the Grand Prix, Bordeaux is one of the key international show jumping events in early 2008. Every year, this top-flight arena attracts the world’s leading riders. This is all the more true this year: the prize money has increased to 270,000 Euros, up 50,000 Euros from the 2007 purse!

A key venue for the world’s best
Indeed, apart from the 2007 winner, the Swiss rider Beat Mandli, many of the world’s Top 10 - or even Top 30 - riders still need to qualify for the final of this prestigious indoor competition, held in Gothenburg, Sweden, from April 24th to 27th 2008, by scoring points in the twelve qualifying events for this season’s Rolex/FEI World Cup. So, of course, Bordeaux, particularly appreciated by leading riders, is an important leg on that journey.

Sporting performance and excitement will once again reach new heights in the ring in hall 3 at the Bordeaux-Lac Exhibition Centre. The World Cup competition will be even more brilliant this year thanks to the sponsorship of Rolex, the
luxury Swiss watchmaker and enthusiastic supporter of equestrian events.

A friendly, sporting atmosphere
Around the competition areas – the competition and collecting rings – the hosts have organized an extensive exhibition, Jumping Expo, with a relaxed, friendly atmosphere – the hallmark of the Bordeaux show. Entry to the exhibition and
collecting ring is free of charge.

The future of European horses
Following the success of their initiative in 2007, Congres et Expositions de Bordeaux have invited all those involved in breeding and training show jumping horses to attend the second European Forum on developing the potential of young horses: “European Forum on young sport horses”. This symposium will bring together the leading lights in European horse breeding for presentations and discussions, giving everyone an opportunity to learn from their colleagues.

So the schedule in Bordeaux next February is very busy and the three days will certainly go by all too quickly. Make a note in your diary today: , February 1st to 3rd 2008.
