Wellington, FL – December 12, 2025 – The 2006 American Grand Prix Association (AGA) National Championship will be held this year at the Stadium Jumping Christmas Festival, scheduled for December 15 – 17, 2006, at the Palm Beach Polo Equestrian Club in Wellington, Florida.
The AGA National Championship has been moved to the Christmas Festival to offer grand prix riders a second chance at a top money event. Last year, the event was held at the National Horse Show and Family Festival. The prize money this year for the winners was increased from $75,000 to $100,000.
The scoring for the event has also changed from a two round format to a more popular Time First Jump-Off format. The jumps will be set to 1.60m. The course designer this year is Pierre Jolicoeur of Wellington, FL.
Classes will kick off on Friday, December 15, with the $10,000 1.40m Speed Classic at 2 p.m. The AGA National Championship is scheduled for Sunday, December 17, with a start time of 2 p.m. as well.
Last year’s winners of the AGA National Championship, Jaime Guerra of Mexico and RMW Power Point owned by Rocky Mountain Warmbloods, will return to defend their title.
Three members of this year’s silver medal winning team from the World Equestrian Games are expected to attend. McLain Ward and Sapphire, fresh off their title win in the Rolex/USEF National Show Jumping Championship, will be leading the pack. He will be joined by Margie Engle and her Olympic mount, Hidden Creek’s Perin, who have won this event twice before in 2001 and 2003. Laura Kraut will be paired with the venerable Anthem.
Other United States team representatives that are scheduled to appear are Todd Minikus, Schuyler Riley, Kimberly Prince, Debbie Stephens, Candice King, and Eliza Shuford.
The AGA National Championship will be an international event. Belgium’s Eric Flameng, who won the first phase of the Rolex/USEF National Show Jumping Championship, will return this weekend with Roxanne. Riders from Canada, such as Frankie Chesler Ortiz and Mario Deslauriers, will be there. Henrik Gundersen (DEN), Pablo Barrios (VEN), and Simon Nizri (MEX) round out the list of foreign riders.
This year’s AGA National Championship is set to be an exciting event for riders and spectators alike. In addition to exciting competition, stay to watch the presentations for the AGA Rider, Horse, and Rookie of the Year awards.
