Reflection, compilation, understanding… These are some of the necessary aspects which were called upon in the making of the FEI Annual Report 2006 and, to a certain extent, the very tools needed in order to provide a global overview and understanding of the FEI’s activities over the past year. In this effect, we are pleased to announce that the FEI Annual Report 2006 is now available both in print and on the FEI website.
Retracing the steps for the year 2006, the FEI Annual Report is a collection of portraits relating the international equestrian scene with regards to events and championships, sports development and pertinent statistics to name but a few.
Indeed, 2006 was a momentous year for the FEI. It began with an eventful General Assembly which, for the first time, took place in Malaysia in conjunction with the FEI World CupTM Jumping Final and saw the election of a new President, HRH Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein. It culminated with the bona fide success of one of the greatest equestrian events ever held – the fifth FEI World Equestrian Games: 61 nations, 773 competitors, 852 horses, 570,000 spectators, an overall budget of EUR 39.3 million, the highest level of press coverage ever reached with an estimated value of EUR 13 million.
While many were witness to these great occasions, there are many developments, perhaps less glamorous and yet vastly significant, which took place behind the scenes throughout the year and around the world. For example, did you know that for the year 2006, the number of FEI Courses for Coaches nearly doubled compared with 2005 – 22 in 2006 as opposed to 12 – as well as being held in unusual locations, that is as far as horsesport is concerned, such as Gaborone in Botswana, Bayamon in Puerto Rico or even Florea, Mauritius? Where Courses for Officials are concerned, there were no less than 83 courses catering for 1680 participants from 76 NFs.
Other interesting pieces of information to be gleamed from the FEI Annual Report include the statistics on the number of events per National Federation and per discipline. Did you know that 1951 international events (CIs) took place in 2006 and that 249 of those were organized in France, which makes it the country that hosted the largest number of competitions? It will not come as a surprise that Jumping is the FEI discipline with the most events (722), but perhaps the fact that FEI’s second biggest discipline is Eventing (413) is less well known. If you ever wondered which country follows France, or which discipline is exponentially increasing in the number of events held annually – the Annual Report will satisfy your queries.
Or on a commercial level, where the FEI is heading and why…
And if figures and facts are not your cup of tea, you can also simply look at the wide selection of photos of winners and participants from events and Championships held around the world. Just enjoy the atmosphere shots which show the horse and horsesport in all its glorious beauty and you, just like us, will feel the passion that keeps us involved.
