Sunday, March 25 - On Saturday evening 21 horse and rider combinations came to the starting gate at the Palms Classic Horse Show $50,000 World Cup Grand Prix presented by Antares Saddlery. Held at the Del Mar Fairgrounds just outside of San Diego, this CSI-W World Cup Qualifier was conducted in accordance with FEI Table A Mixed. One Jump-off. Article 238.2.2.
Course Designer Michele Vaillancourt’s had put together a challenging track for the entrants. When the dust settled, Canada’s Chriss Pratt emerged as the victor aboard C&S Partnerships bay gelding, Live Fire, a horse that has been trained by Richard Spooner.
Chris Pratt, who hails from Toronto, made the decision in January of this year to head West and join forces with Richard Spooner. Spooner’s stable of Grand Prix horses had grown to the point where he needed a qualified rider to assist him in the ring and Spooner chose Pratt to fill that bill.
It appears that this marriage has paid off. Earlier this month at Thermal, Chris finished 2nd in the $30,000 Ariat Grand Prix on Live Fire and now just a short few weeks later he has climbed to the top of the leaderboard.
Torchy Millar’s loss is definitely Richard Spooner’s gain.
