The Prix Just World International-Mc Cullough Foundation (prize money: 25.000€), 1.50m table A competition with one jump-off, was called the Small Grand Prix, but a lot of ‘big’ riders started some of theirs best horses. Only 7 of the 32 riders stayed clear in the first round. Michael Whitaker (GBR) and his mare Insul Tech Quidame des Hayettes Z (Zang, Quidam de Revel) went faster than the French rider Michel Robert on Koro d’Or (SF, Elf d’Or) and Christina Liebherr (SUI) with L.B. Tamina (SBS, Lux Z). Michael Whitaker proves that he’s in splendid form, because yesterday, he already gathered the first price of the Prix Mednet.
The winner of the Prix KBL Monaco, Gregory Wathelet (UKR) and his very young grey stallion Pikap (BWP, Kannan) made one mistake in the jump-off and became 5th.
Grand Prix du Prince Albert II de Monaco
Grand Prix in two rounds, first round Table A against the clock. 37 riders started for the first round, 10 of them made a clear round. The 18 best riders of the first round got a ticket to start in the 2nd round, so 8 riders with 4 penalties were also present in the second round. Only 6 riders stayed double correct, so the jump-off was short but indeed very exciting. The first to enter the jump-off was World Champion Jos Lansink and Al Kaheel Cavalor Cumano (HOLST, Cassini). The grey stallion jumped super and they stayed clear, but needed 32.14sec to do the job and finally became 5th. The 6th place was for the Swedish Malin Baryard, who made two faults in the jump-off. Two riders of the Whitaker-dynasty stayed clear in the jump-off, but they were both 00.50 sec slower than the final winner. Robert Whitaker (with Lacroix) beat his uncle Michael (with Insul Tech Mozart des Hayettes, BWP) with 00.04 sec (!).
The last will be first! Jessica Kürten, 2nd placed in the GCT Grand Prix of Cannes 2 weeks before and 5th in the Grand Prix du Prince Albert II de Monaco of edition 2006, whirled like a tornado through the jump-off, the chrono stopped at 29.63. Due to the great performance of her fabulous mare Castle Forbes Libertina (WESTF, Libero H), this Irish horsewoman obtained 100.000€! The global prize money was 300.000€.
