June 6 - 10 and June 13 - 17, 2007
The Classics @ Palgrave once again had an outstanding number of entries in both the hunter and jumper rings. In the grand prix ring, the focus each Sunday was the $10,000 Modified GP.
At The Classic, Hyde Moffatt took 3 of the top 6 placings but it was King Ridge Stables’ rider Roberto Teran who took the win on Distant Star 3E.
Distant Star 3E was born in 1999. She is by Class Action out of Betwixt, a successful jumper with former Canadian team member Hugh Graham in the 1990s. In 2004 this big grey mare placed 2nd in the $10,000 Young Horse Championships (5 year olds) at The Royal Winter Fair in Toronto. The following year she went one better, taking the $8,000 National 6-year old JD Championship at The Royal. Since 2006 she has placed consistantly in a variety of classes between 1.15m and 1.35m and had numerous wins already in 2007. At the Summer Classic, Jay Hayes and his new ride, Livarot, took the win with Courtney Vince and Nalla in reserve.
Born in Hartford, Connecticut in 1957, Hayes was raised on a dairy farm. At the age of 12 he started riding and still spends the majority of his time in the saddle almost 40 years later. In 1985 Hayes became a Canadian citizen. In 1992 he was a member of the Canadian Olympic Team at Barcelona. Hayes was also selected for the Also on our 2000 Sydney Olympics. Hayes is also one of the organizers of the popular Collingwood Horse Show held each August in Ontario since 1986.
