Flashpoint Media Services: The Week in Review

Alise-Oken_Lands-End-Mad HatterHARRODSBURG, KY —FEB. 28, 2007— Another week of competition came to a close on Feb. 25, and the riders and trainers of Flashpoint Media Services celebrated another round of successes. Michael Tokaruk is new to the Flashpoint roster, but he’s had a very auspicious beginning. Tokaruk and his 12-year-old Holsteiner gelding Lord Byron were the surprise winners of the $25,000 EMO Grand Prix of the Gulf Coast, held Sunday Feb. 25 at the Harrison County Equestrian Center in Gulfport, Mississippi.

The team trumped 20 top contenders for the win, which marks Tokaruk’s 3rd GP aboard the handsome bay. “Today I was lucky enough to leave the jumps up and be faster than everyone else,” said Tokaruk, who was thrilled with his horse’s performance. “He’s just super. My horse jumped great.” In addition to his big win, Tokaruk is also celebrating the opening of his own stable this spring, Tokaruk Show Stables, based in Aiken S.C.

In Ocala, at the Winter Festival, Daniel Geitner, of the Aiken-based DFG Stables, had two favorable rides in the Jumpers, placing 8th in the Brookledge Open Welcome early in the week and then 3rd in Thursday’s $25,000 Ariat Grand Prix aboard the 8-year-old Argentine Warmblood Trading Places, owned by Kyle Register. A well-known trainer and clinician, Geitner also took Regular Working Hunter Reserve Champion honors aboard Remedy for owner Margaret Edge.

Sergio Campos, of the Longwood Equestrian Center, had another great week in Ocala. On Sunday he placed 5th in the $50,000 Duggan Equipment Grand Prix with his Brazilian-bred mare Shakira do Jacare. Then, with the Rae Marie Kennedy-owned Onno Z, Campos had a 1st and a 4th in the YJC, 6- Year-Old Division, and was 3rd in the YJC 7&8-Year-Old Finals with Mill Creek Stables’ Mill Creek Sancho. Speaking of Kennedy, the Longwood client placed well with her mount Zizou, earning a 5th place ribbon in the Amateur Owner Jumpers, while client Melissa Rudershausen went home with Champion honors in the same division aboard her horse Soleil.

In Wellington, at the 5th week of the Winter Equestrian Festival, Flashpoint was well represented in both the Hunter ring and in the Pony Divisions. Elizabeth Towell Boyd took 3rd place honors in Saturday’s AHJF Hunter Classic Spectacular of Palm Beach, riding the Caroline Clark Morrison-owned Brunello. With the same mount, Boyd was Reserve Champion in the First Year Green Working Hunters. She also took Reserve Champion honors in the Regular Working Hunters with the Sarah Ward-owned Onassis.

It was also a stellar week in Palm Beach for the young riders of the Monroe, N.C.- based Hunters Lane Farm. Alise Oken piloted her top mount, Land’s End Mad Hatter (Bubba to his close friends), to both Large Pony Hunter Champion and Overall Grand Pony Hunter Champion. She also found her self in the ribbons aboard Southern Style in the Large Junior Working Hunters. Sister Lucille, meanwhile, had a well-received 3rd place ribbon in the Small Pony Conformation Hunters with her 9-year-old gelding Hi-Lite. Also in the ribbons from Hunters Lane was Lexi Piez, aboard Bella Cavalla, who placed 6th in the Children’s Hunter.
