Kuala Lumpur – It is in Asia, a 12 hour flight from Western Europe, and still not an exotic destination – the CSI5* in Kuala Lumpur from November 23rd – 25th, 2007. This is the 3rd time that the Putra Stadium in the Malaysian capital hosts an international five star event with approximately 500,000 Euro in prize money. In 2006 Kuala Lumpur was also the location of the FEI World Cup Final Show Jumping.
The preparation for the transport and stabling of the horses is already in full gear. Martin Atock, from the renowned company Peden Bloodstock located in Mülheim/Ruhr, is organizing the flight transportation of the valuable horses in modern travel containers. Participants from throughout Europe, the USA, Saudi Arabia and Australia are expected at the KL Grand Prix.
Amsterdam-Schiphol Airport is the departure place for the European horses. Upon arrival at the Kuala Lumpur Airport the horses will be brought without delay to the air conditioned indoor complex of the Putra Stadium. The international FEI stables also serve as the quarantine area. This arrangement makes a longer quarantine Period in Malaysia unnecessary. There is so much space available at the Putra Stadium that the horses can be stabled separately by country of origin. This luxury of space allows for an individual stable aisle for the Malaysian participants, separated from the international stabling area.
The schedule for the international riders at the KL Grand Prix consists of two Tours. A Speed Tour with the Putra Derby – a two-phase jumping competition - the Putra KL Cup and the Speed Classic. The Grand Prix Tour includes a difficult speed class, and two jumping competitions with jump-off, the highlight being the KL Grand Prix.
The CSI5* Kuala Lumpur is however also a sought after destination for the show jumping riders from the Asian continent. The show organizers carry the Asian Nations Cup Trophy and the World Cup Qualifier that counts for the South East Asian League. There are also three national classes and a special highlight is the International Team Trophy. Each team consists of an international rider and a Malaysian rider who, in the true meaning of the saying, bet on the same horse. A short and speedy class with great entertainment value.
