Great sport during sunny second day in Valkenswaard

The main class on the second day of the International Concours Valkenswaard was another qualification for the VDL Grand Prix which is part of the Global Champions Tour. In total 49 combinations are allowed to start on Saturday. Britain’s Michael Whitaker was the fastest of all 41 starters. He saddled the 10-year-old mare Insul Tech Quidame des Hayettes Z (Zangersheide, Quidam de Revel x Nimmerdor) for this occasion. Piet Raijmakers finished in second place for the Netherlands with the KWPN stallion Van Schijndel’s Optical (Atheletico x Cassini). American Richard Spooner was third with the pretty Holsteiner gelding Cristallo (Caletto II x Metellus).

In the morning the amateurs had their competitions. In the 1m15/1m25 class it was another British citizen that took first prize, Jane Davies with the 10-year-old KWPN gelding Puidam (Guidam x Ditmar). Runners-up were Kuwait’s Ali Al Khorafi and the nine-year-old mare Femina (Amati x Lord Major). Putri Hamidjojo from Indonesia finished in third place with the Westphalian mare Fabiene (Ferragamo x Anmarsch).

The 1m35 jumping competition was won by Dutchman Joep Raijmakers with the 14-year-old gelding Van Schijndel’s Patrick (Rheinl., Polydor LDB x Pilot). He was followed by Belgium’s Bart Soetaers, who won this class yesterday and the American Louise Otten.

48 combinations started in the Medium Tour, a Table A against the clock. In total five riders stayed clear within the time allowed. Belgium’s Kristof Cleeren clocked the fastest time with the eight-year-old KWPN mare Sea Coast Silvana (Corland x Widor). Jack Ansems finished runner-up with the eight-year-old mare VDL Groep Sapphire B (Mr. Blue x Grand Veneur). Third place went to Michael Whitaker and the Hannoverian mare Arielle (Acord II x Genever).

The result of the young horses class look almost the same as yesterday’s result. The seven-year-old SBS mare Quicy de Rosseignies (Cruising x Shogun II) finished in third place yesterday with her rider Ludo Philippaerts, but today she was the winner. She was faster than yesterday’s winner, the seven-year-old Holsteiner stallion Concas (Contender x Caletto II) ridden by Nick Skelton. European and World Champion Jeroen Dubbeldam finished in third place with the French-bred mare Malaguena La Silla (Quick Star x Tout Feu d’Hex).

Tomorrow the VDL Groep Grand Prix will be the main feature and will start at 2 am.
