Syracuse, NY, November 3, 2006: Beezie Madden provided the anchor ride in tonight’s $25,000 Syracuse Corporate Team Challenge that secured the win for Team LaBarge in front of the War Memorial crowd. Madden and Integrity posted a faultless, fast round to bring home the victory for LaBarge Companies and her teammates Schuyler Riley, Lisa Silverman, Christine McCrea and Richard Spooner. LaBarge is Syracuse company that works with piping systems and utility construction.
In the second competition of the evening, gambling paid off for Candice King in the $15,000 CN Gambler’s Choice. King, on Perfekt, was the 16th to go in a field of 18 riders in the crowd-pleasing event in which riders, and sometimes their horses as well, compete in costume.
The Gambler’s Choice format allows riders to choose their own course to accumulate the maximum number of points they can in the time allowed. Different jumps are worth different point values. At the end, each rider has the choice of jumping the “Joker” fence, tonight set at 5’ 5” by course designer Richard Jeffery, which either adds 200 points to their score or subtracts the same amount. King and Perfekt were costumed like Raggedy Ann, but turned in a polished and speedy round. She accumulated 1080 points on the regular course, and with the crowd’s encouragement, successfully cleared the Joker. Margie Engle, dressed in a clown suit, as has become a tradition for her at Syracuse, was second with just 10 points fewer than King on her Hidden Creek’s Calippo 12. Richard Spooner (aka, “Zorro”) was third on Ace with 1190 points.
Both of Friday night’s competitions count toward points to compete in the Animal Planet Sporthorse Cup on Sunday. The top six, plus the winner of Saturday’s $75,000 Budweiser World Cup Qualifier of Syracuse, qualify. The top-ten standings after Friday night are:
