Margie Engle and Hidden Creek’s Quervo Gold capture the $75,000 RV Sales of Broward Grand Prix at HITS Saugerties

SAUGERTIES, NY (August 6, 2025) — Margie Engle and her mount Hidden Creek’s Quervo Gold negotiated the fastest double-clear round on course designer Jack Robson’s route to take home the blue-ribbon in Sunday’s $75,000 RV Sales of Broward Grand Prix at HITS Saugerties. “It was a very technical course that had a little of everything,” said Engle. “The time allowed was a factor and there were some big fences. When you jump for $75,000 you expect a challenging course and Sunday’s was just right.”

Robson trimmed a field of 35 combinations down to six for the jump-off. Engle, who was third to go in the jump-off, collected $22,500 in prize money for Hidden Creek Farm. The $75,000 RV Sales of Broward Grand Prix marks the second time in as many weeks that a former member of the United States Olympic Team captured the top prize in the featured class at HITS Saugerties. In last Sunday’s $75,000 Tavern on the Green Catering Grand Prix, Olympian Anne Kursinski took home the blue-ribbon.

Engle said that she likes to give her mount a lot of time off and only showcases her in the big events. In fact, the last time Hidden Creek’s Quervo Gold jumped was weeks ago in Aachen, Germany. “She must have thought this was a treat today,” joked Engle. “She was riding around in the ring and there was no wind, rain or fog. It was a beautiful day in Saugerties to compete.”

“It’s always great to finish on top,” said Hidden Creek Farm owner Mike Pulaski, who was in attendance on Sunday.

First to go in the jump-off was McLain Ward and his mount Quo Vadis. They made it all the way home clean in 41.273 to set the pace right off the bat. That time would be good enough for second-place as Ward collected $16,500 in prize money for Sagamore Farms.

Next to go in the jump-off was Katherine Miracle and her mount Couletto K James. The duo made it all the way clean until the final effort when they dropped a rail. Miracle grabbed the sixth-place ribbon and took home $3,750 for Overlook Farm.

Engle was third to go in the jump-off aboard Hidden Creek’s Quervo Gold and she really put the pedal to the metal. The former Olympian made it all way home clean in a blazing 39.676 to set the new Great American Time to Beat. That time would hold up as in the end it was Engle who took the victory gallop.

Darragh Kerins and Night Train, who won Thursday’s $25,000 Ariat Grand Prix, were fourth to go in Sunday’s jump-off and had an unlucky rail down midway through Robson’s route. Kerins finished in fourth-place for Double H Farm.

Patty Stovel and her trusty mount Shandor 41 went fifth in the jump-off. They made it home clean with a time of 43.527 that secured the pair fourth place.

In the last-to-ride position sat Federico Sztyrle and his mount Ambra. They navigated the course without any rails down but their time of 42.566 was off the pace set by Engle and Sztyrle finished in third place.

“It could not have been a better day,” said RV Sales of Broward President/Owner Gigi Stetler. “We are really happy to be a part of great show jumping. It’s nice to give back to the riders who help our business grow.”

With the victory, Engle earned some valuable points putting her right in the thick of things for the USGPL Standings. The top-30 USGPL pairs will be invited to compete in the $100,000 USGPL Invitational Grand Prix which will be held at HITS Culpeper during the USGPL Finals on Sunday, September 30.

HITS offers six more qualifying Grand Prix classes for the $100,000 USGPL Invitational Grand Prix this summer at its HITS Saugerties and HITS Culpeper equestrian facilities. At HITS Saugerties, competitors have four chances remaining to secure enough prize money to make the cut. The next chance occurs on Thursday, August 9, in the $25,000 Ariat Grand Prix. HITS Culpeper offers two more opportunities to qualify when show jumping returns to Commonwealth Park in late August.

Week VI of show jumping at HITS Saugerties continues this Wednesday and culminates on Sunday, August 12 with the $75,000 In the Woods Log Homes Grand Prix. The $22,500 Children’s/Adult Championship and the $40,000 Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumper Championship close Week VI of shows at HITS Saugerties. The summer series concludes with one final week of show jumping beginning on September 5, followed by the Marshall & Sterling League Finals, September 13-16 when acclaimed singer/songwriter Suzanne Vega will be performing for the Year-End High Point Awards Celebration that will be catered by Tavern on the Green Catering.
