May 16, 2025

It started last Thursday with McLain Ward at CSIO La Baule before the Nations Cup got underway. With Louisburg Farm’s Pjotter Van De Zonnehoeve, he jumped to victory on both Thursday and Friday in the Prix Echo de la Presqu’ile Guerandaisa and the Prix du Cinquantenaire respectively.

While the USA finished second in the Meydan/FEI Nations Cup to France, they were not finished yet. Beezie Madden aboard Coral Reef Vio Volo won the Prix Groupe Lucien Barriere / DianeDesseigne while Richard Spooner with Pako became the first American ever to take the Derby De La Region Des Pays De La Loire.

On Sunday, McLain Ward aboard Sapphire went double clear to win the Longines Grand Prix of La Baule and finishing less than a second behind McLain was fellow American Mario Deslauriers aboard Urico to earn second place.

La Baule was not the only action in Europe. In Germany the Global Champions Tour was underway and the 300,000 Euro GCT of Germany saw American Lauren Hough who was last into the ring and ended up leading a female one, two, three in the Global Champions Tour Grand Prix of Germany. Edwina Alexander (AUS) was second and Laura Kraut (USA) aboard Cedric was third.

At the Young Riders Competition in Belgium at CSIOY Moorsele, Nick Dello Joio aboard Malcolm claimed second place in the Young Riders Grand Prix.

And finally in Munich, Germany about 6,000 fans jammed into a stadium built for 1,500 spectators to watch Moorlands Totilas and his partner Edward Gal perform an emotion-laden dance for six minutes Sunday, sweeping the Exquis World Dressage Masters
