By all accounts, it has turned out to be the biggest and most impressive equestrian competition in history. Now Aachen, a European city world-renowned for horse competition, passes the proverbial torch to another great world-class horse city (Lexington, Kentucky) to host the next FEI Games in four years in 2010. Aachen, Germany - The show jumpers returned to day four of five in a hotly contested race to the medal podium. America’s Beezie Madden and Authentic have dazzled the legions of show jumping fans that have traveled to Aachen to witness the very best of the best. Today’s two-round go was the decisive test of which four horse-and-rider pairs were asked to return for one last round on Sunday. The winner will be awarded the final medal to be handed out as the successful and exciting two weeks of equestrian competition at one of Europe’s legendary horse showgrounds comes to a celebrated close. Aachen, Germany - More than 38,000 fans of reining and driving descended on the 2006 World Equestrian Games on Friday to watch the exciting marathon phase of four-in-hand driving and the Team medal competition in the Western discipline of reining. The Main Stadium was once again packed to the rafters, full of fans cheering the competitors and witnessing the contest of the team medal in Aachen. Aachen, Germany— The first qualifier and speed class for the individual and team FEI World Championships in show jumping has ended, and the 16 efforts put in front of the 116 show jumpers going round were a bit more than a few could handle. And for Team U.S.A., there were few bumps along the road translating into less than a handful of downed rails in a windy Main Stadium. Overall on this first day of show jumping in Aachen, six horses were eliminated and one retired. Read more

It was years in the making, but it came down to one minute in Aachen, Germany, and when that one minute was over, 18-year-old Megan Benjamin of Saratoga, CA, was the first female American vaulter ever to take a world championship. For the past 20 years, a German woman has always held the title of World Champion, and Germany has also won 23 of the last 30 world championships. But two Americans made it look like a walk in the park. American’s Guenter Seidel and Steffen Peters, who are now both poised to enter a showdown among the top 15 dressage riders that have made the cut to move forward to Saturday’s final dressage phase–the musical freestyle–in a battle to see who will take home dressage’s top honor and the title of world champion. Eventers, Vaulters Take the Stages at Aachen 2006 WEG

Aachen, Germany - A brand new cross-country course awaits the eventers as they begin their first of three phases at the 2006 WEG. But before they can take to the new course (which will be contested in the short format without steeplechase), there are two days of dressage. And if the morning of the first day is any indication, it will be a cold and wet ride. In addition, it was the first day of a series of compulsories for the vaulting squads vying for medals.
