For anyone who is a fan of show jumping, the focal point of the entire year must be the Spruce Meadows Masters. This year the Masters runs from September 5 to 9, 2007. The flight carrying 48 European-based horses arrived safely at Calgary International Airport. That means it is time to get ready to enjoy the best show jumpers in the world in our own backyard. Once again, Mother Nature did not look kindly upon the staff, crew, horses, ponies, riders, owners, etc. attending the Caledon National (May 17-21, 2006). The fabulous facilities at the Caledon Equestrian Park north of Toronto were put to the test for the second week in a row.
Rain, Rain, Go Away!

Spring 2006 in Ontario has been simply glorious. Sunny days, hot temps, pleasant breezes. Shorts and sandals have been released from their winter storage earlier than usual. Horses who were allowed to grow winter coats are already shedded out. Paddocks are turning green and lush. Perfect weather, that is until it was time for the first outdoor “A” show in Ontario, the Classic @ Palgrave I.
Beth Underhill: finding that silver lining

Beth Underhill is one of the best-known and most popular riders in the world of Canadian show jumping. Born in 1962 in Guelph, Ontario, Underhill started riding at a YMCA camp in Georgetown. Her brothers had other summer activities lined up and her parents thought horseback riding might be just the thing for their young daughter. In 1969, she joined the Toronto-North York Pony Club and received its all-round education. Although eventing, games, and dressage were fun, she was intrigued by show jumping and, by the age of fifteen, decided to concentrate on it alone. Read more
