Devon Country Fair donates $335,000 to Bryn Mawr Hospital

January 30, 2026

DEVON, Pa.—The Devon Horse Show and Country Fair made a record donation of $335,000 to Bryn Mawr Hospital following a banner year during which the Horse Show, in which members of both the 2004 and 2008 Olympic gold medal winning show jumping teams competed, played before the largest crowds in its history.

Devon’s Board of Directors made their annual contribution to Bryn Mawr at a reception held at the Hospital on Friday, Jan. 16.

Since 1972, Devon has donated well over $13 million to Bryn Mawr to support projects such as the Emergency Department, the Comprehensive Breast Center, Maternal-Fetal Medicine program, the Outpatient Diagnostic Center, and various other improvement programs.

This year’s donation will be used to purchase Surgical Recovery Monitoring Equipment, Surgical Instrument Sterilization machines and several pieces of ENT Equipment.

The presentation was made by Devon’s President Wade McDeviit and 2008 Chairman of the Country Fair Beth Wright to Bryn Mawr Hospital President Andrea Gilbert.

“The generosity of the Devon Horse Show and its incredible impact on patient care at Bryn Mawr Hospital is immeasurable,” says Anthony V. Coletta, M.D., surgeon and president of the Bryn Mawr Hospital Medical Staff. “This year, their gift to Bryn Mawr Hospital will support extensive upgrades our surgical equipment, providing our physicians the very latest and best technology in treating our patients. I know I speak for my peers when I say we are truly grateful for this wonderful partnership with the Devon Horse Show.”

“As physicians, we are always thinking of ways to improve our practices to ensure our patients the very best care,” says Frances Marchant, M.D., otolaryngologist with ENT Associates. “When I was informed that the Devon Horse Show’s gift to Bryn Mawr Hospital would fund specialized ENT equipment and instruments – especially for our pediatric patients and more complex cases - I was elated. This wonderful contribution allows us to continue our efforts to provide the highest quality care to our patients.”

“Each year Bryn Mawr Hospital outlines their highest priority needs for the fiscal year,” said 2009 Fair co-chairman Karin Maynard. “In years past this has included digital mammography equipment for the Comprehensive Breast Center and most recently equipment for the newly renovated Emergency Department.”
“This year, Bryn Mawr provided us with a list of eight major areas needing support,” said Maynard. “The Devon County Fair Executive Committee reviews the request and discusses in great detail the most appropriate use of our donation. We believe strongly that our donation should be earmarked for a service or specific piece of needed equipment and not simply to a general use fund. This process is done with much thought and focus on the many hours of volunteers time that makes the donation possible.”

“In 2008, we had an exceptional year and are able to increase our donation from $308,000 to $335,000,” said Maynard. “As Chairmen of the Devon Country Fair, all of you volunteers made this years donation possible and we thank you!

The donation to the hospital represents the proceeds of a very successful 2008 Devon Horse Show and Country Fair.

Founded in 1896, it is one of the most prestigious equestrian events in the country and one of the largest volunteer fundraising efforts in the nation as well.

The ongoing commitment to Bryn Mawr Hospital is extremely important to both the leadership and the hundreds of volunteers at the Devon Horse Show and Country Fair.

This year’s donation was made to three departments.

A sum of $37,566 was given to ENT Equipment, including $17,566 to Instruments and Light Sources and $18,200 to Emergency Airway Cart (instrumentation and cart).

Surgicenter has been successful in recruiting two new ENT surgeons, Dr Chao and Dr. Shah, and equipment and upgraded instrumentation will support their surgical cases.

Dr. Shah is a pediatric ENT and some instrumentation is particular to pediatric cases, while Dr. Chao has specialty expertise in complex ear surgeries and the instrumentation requested will support these cases.

A donation of $214,000 was made to Surgical Recovery Monitoring Equipment.

This included $196,000 for 14 DASH 4000 monitors for PACU and $18,000 for1 DASH 4000 transport/portable monitor.

Fourteen monitors in the PACU will be upgraded as most have reached the end of a useful life and are beginning to fail.

In addition this will enhance the monitoring of sedated patients in/out of the OR as well as transported patients with hemodynamic and ETCO2 monitoring capability in the OR.

A donation of $82,370 included $52,370 to Surgical Instrument Sterilization and Tracking Instrument Washer and $30,000 to Steris Machine.

Integral to the surgical program is the efficient cleaning and sterilization of instruments.
An aged instrument washer and 2 Steris machines which are used to clean and disinfect flexible scopes will be replaced.

The 113th annual Devon Horse Show and Country Fair will take place May 21 through May 30, 2009.
