Barbaro, winner of the Kentucky Derby whose shattered leg in the Preakness brought his stunning career to a halt has been captured beautifully by veterinarian-turned-artist John Fawcett. The two original portraits were commissioned by Roy and Gretchen Jackson, Barbaro’s owners, and fine art giclée reproductions are now available, thanks to Fine Print Imaging, which is donating all proceeds to the Thoroughbred Charities of America. The State College Series Horse Shows held at Kocher Farms in Penn State, PA, were once again a great success. For the most part, the weather was beautiful and as always, Alex’s Lemonade Stand visisted to collect money towards cancer research. (Read on…)

I thought I might share with you my thoughts on Sandy Point Stables. The following is based upon a slide presentation that I did as a school project, but it will give you a better feel for Sandy Point and its history.
This is what the Barn looks like today. But in the early 1900’s it belonged to Reggie Vanderbilt and looked quite differently than it does today.
I wanted to share with you some of the activities of Sandy Point Stables Barn Riders and also point out some of our “Other Activities”. (Read on…)
Sandy Point Stables is one of the last remaining parts of the original Vanderbilt Estate, a 280 acre complex that stretched from East Main Rd. (Rte. 138) to the water. Constructed almost 100 years ago by Reggie Vanderbilt, the imposing structure contained 24 stalls, an indoor arena, groom’s quarters and a lounge for Reggie and his guests. (Read on…)
