August 26, 2025

Bridgehampton,NY-August 26, 2008: The first class of the Tuesday schedule in the Grand Prix Field at the Hampton Classic Horse Show was the 1.35 open speed. This year 87 horses and riders contested the course designed by Conrad Homfeld. 30 horses in all went clear and about halfway through Katie Prudent took a commanding lead on Naomi breaking the timers in 60.255 seconds.

With ten left to go Jeffrey Welles entered the ring on Be Lucky. He set off at a good gallop and turned promptly. As he came around to the last double he was a full second faster than Prudent and his final time was 59.667. This proved to be the best and gave them the win. Be Lucky, owned by Somerset SportArt is a new mount for Welles. This was their third class together and the pair’s second win.
