The Danish Equestrian Centre at Vilhelmborg, 6 miles south of Aarhus, will play host to the Dansk Varmblod Elite Show and the Danish Derby Horseshow 2008 from Wednesday 3rd to Sunday 7th September.

The impressive event not only features the grading of the best mares and foals of 2008 but also the Danish National Showjumping Championship, the Danish National Young Horse Championships in Showjumping and of course the very successful Elite Foal Auction as well.

In all approximately 700 horses and ponies will be participating at the event with every one of them having had to qualify at national level either in jumping or at a grading show in order to do so.

The best of the year

The selection of the best mares of the year and the best foals of the year is what the Elite show is really about. The grading commission of Dansk Varmblod has picked out the best 2 and 3 year old mares in the country as well as the best foals for the national finale at Vilhelmsborg.

Dansk Varmblod divides its breeding programme into a dressage section and a jumper section, and, as a result, championships will be awarded in each section for both the 2 year old and 3 year old . The colt foals and the filly foals will also be similarly divided.

All the mares and foals will be presented on Friday or Saturday with the best of them coming back for the finals on Saturday and Sunday when the champions will be named, and the top 3 year old Danish Warmblood mares and Danish Sports Pony mares will be awarded with medals of gold, silver and bronze.

As potential future mothers of top sires and sport horses, the young mares naturally attract a lot of attention at the Elite show and the international trend towards showing more mares in top sport increases this focus. For example, the Danish mare Polka Hit Nexen who recently earned a silver medal at the WBFSH World Championships in Verden was initially discovered at the Dansk Varmblod Elite Show at Vilhelmsborg where she was awarded gold and became Reserve Champion mare in 2005.

Purchase a future champion

Beginning at 7 pm on Saturday September 6th, Dansk Varmblod’s Elite Foal Auction will take place in the main show arena at Vilhelmsborg.

Many a star has initially been purchased at Dansk Varmblod’s Elite Foal Auction. Both the internationally famed breeding sires Blue Hors Don Romantic and the up-coming star stallion Skovens Rafael were sold at the Elite Foal Auction and have developed proven international star quality.

Videos of the auction foals can be seen on the official Dansk Varmblod website. This year’s collection consists of 60 warmblood foals and 6 pony foals, all of them with top international bloodlines, type and movement.

Through this auction Dansk Varmblod offers buyers a unique chance to purchase a future breeding stallion, a highly graded mare or an internationally successful sport horse at an early age when it is still affordable.

Attending the auction ”live” on the internet also allows you to bid over the telephone directly from your home anywhere in the world. All you need to do is to take contact to the Dansk Varmblod Secretariat prior to the beginning of the auction.
