Let the “Masters” Begin

(SPRUCE MEADOWS, Calgary, AB): The 2008 Spruce Meadows “Masters” Media Day had added excitement around it as Canada’s Equestrian Team returned home as Olympic Team Silver Medalists. It was the team’s first appearance together since returning to Canada. With the addition of Olympic alternate Jonathan Asselin, Ian Millar, Eric Lamaze and Jill Henselwood will compete together at Spruce Meadows on Saturday with the hopes of winning the BMO Nations’ Cup.
Looking at the week ahead, individual Olympic Gold Medalist Eric Lamaze spoke of the similarities competing for gold and Sunday’s CN International Grand Prix, “They are both very demanding, one you win a gold medal which means the world to you and one you get a big cheque. Any tournament of this magnitude is going to put you through stress, but you know the feeling and you deal with it.”
With the Olympics now behind them the team they will look to continue its winning way’s at the last tournament of the Spruce Meadows FEI season. With over $2 million in prize money being offered over the next five days there is no better place to be crowned champion.
Tomorrow’s first International Ring competition, the Zeidler Financial Cup will begin at 12:45 pm, followed by the $35,000 Finning Welcome which will begin at 3:20 pm. The $2 million Spruce Meadows “Masters” Tournament will continue through Sunday.
