At Fidelity’s Welcome Stake, its Norman Dello Joio and Malcom

September 6, 2025

Hampton Falls, New Hampshire - September 5, 2025 - Show jumping action continued on another hot and humid day at the Fidelity Investments Jumper Classic. This did not intimidate many of the top horse and rider combinations from showing up to accept the challenge in the $10,000 Welcome Stake, a qualifying class for Sunday’s $75,000 Fidelity Investments Grand Prix.

With a total field of thirty two entries the crowd cheered in anticipation but had to practice the art of patience as it was not until Kevin Babbington riding out of the 15th spot produced the first clear round over the Linda Allen designed course. Sighs rad through the crowd as many riders dropped the last rail on jump twelve, the final lofty oxer of the course. The chase continued with no additional clear rounds until Tim Hooker and Sirius 127 jumped out of the twenty six spot in the order to make it a jump off. Norman Dello Joio and Linda Sheridan would add their names to the roster for a total of a four horse jump off.

Hooker returned and jumped clear to take the early lead after Babbington dropped a rail, as did Sheridan. Dello Joio guided his mount, Malcom a stunning chestnut nine year old Dutch gelding who has had for three years through the jump off with a clear round and shaved seconds off the clock to emerge victorious.

When asked about his ride, Dello Joio described the course as “deceptively difficult.” He said that the multiple hills and terrain changes were a challenging, but he thought the overall course rode very nicely. “Linda Allen is a super experienced course designer and I am really looking forward to the Grand Prix on Sunday. Thier is a nice field of horses and riders here that will make it exciting and the grounds look great ” he added.

A smaller class but one that tested the mettle of a field of 7 riders, the Oliynyk Show Stables Junior Amatuer Owner High class quickly pared down the competitors. Only three qualified for the jump off. Henry Kovaks riding the grey gelding Cermit had both a clear round with a time of 69.808, and a clear jump off with a time of 30.585 and kept the lead, though it looked as though Sara Williamson on Leo 337 had a shot in her first round with a time of 69.404, followed by a rail in the jump off. She came in 3rd after 2nd place winner Oakley Clark and Krystoff with a time of 69.906 and 39.985 in the jump off.

The Jumper Classic is the only AGA sanctioned Grand Prix and has become New England’s premier equestrian event. This elite level competition caters exclusively to jumper riders offering a chance to compete for over $200,000 prize money, which includes the $15,000 Mohegan Sun Derby on Saturday, September 6th, and culminates with the $75,000 Fidelity Investments AGA Grand Prix and $15,000 Equine Insurance Services Speed Stake presented by Great American on Sunday, September 7th.
