2008 Fidelity Investments Jumper Classic Saves The Best For Last in the $15,000 Mohegan Sun Derby
September 9, 2025
The rain held off just long enough for the 15,000 Mohegan Sun Derby class to speed up today at the Silver Oak Equestrian Center in Hampton Falls, NH.
The sixteen obstacle course designed by world renowned course designer Linda Allen of Fillmore, CA played host to a field of twenty two horse and rider combinations on derby day. With so many jumps on the long course in which Allen utilized derby elements of the bank, grob and open water jump was a challenging course that was designed to test both the endurance and stamina as well as technical skill of both athletes.
Allen’s challenge was not met until the first clear round was produced by the youngest rider in the class fifteen year old Victoria Birdsall, on Jerremy. Ironically the Birdsall Family owns the Silver Oak Equestrian Center that is the proud to be the new official home Fidelity Investments Jumper Classic this year and for many more to come in the future.
Unfortunately, Birdsall’s time did not stay in the top slot for long when Kent Farrington and Unesco entered the ring and jumped a clear round that would shave mere seconds off her time to take over the lead. His time would be challenged several riders in the order until he was eventually beaten by Cara Raether on Jolly Mome. Fans cheered loudly as the second to last horse and rider, Charlie Jacobs and Pia stole the top spot from Raether. With one more horse to go guests held their breath as past Olympian Peter Leone and his mount Nerval De La Batia galloped into the ring determined to emerge victorious. Victorious they were as Leone guided his towering gelding around the course making his attempt for the grand prize appear effortless and in the process managed be one second faster to capture the win and the top prize in the $15,000 Mohegan Sun Derby as the crowd erupted with applause.
The Mohegan Sun Derby Class was one of the highlighted classes of The Jumper Classic that is included in the over $200,000 in prize money given away throughout the week. The show commences tomorrow with the $15,000 Equine Insurance Speed Stake presented by Great American and $75,000 Fidelity Investment Grand Prix. Gates open at 10 am with opening ceremonies starting at 11:30 am.
