Rainfall problems at GCT of Brazil

An urgent press conference was called by the organisors of the Athina Onassis International Horse Show and the Global Champions Tour (GCT) which took place in Rio de Janiero at the showground at 16:30 (local time) today.

No expense has been spared in creating the GCT of Brazil with every detail considered. The ambience, accommodation and hospitality for the riders, horses, owners, sponsors, grooms and the public are of the highest quality. The organisors have invested considerably in creating the event and even decided to create a brand new surface.

Unfortunately due to unforeseen and uncharacteristic rainfall for this time of year, the worst in 48 years, all classes on Friday will be cancelled. The decision to use a sand based surface was to ensure that even the worse conditions would ensure the event would proceed, as a grass arena under these conditions would have rendered the event cancelled in any case.

The organization will work all day and night to ensure the ground is fit and ready for the two GCT classes.
