Jimmy Torano and Marlo Are Fastest Pair to Win $3,000 NAL Open Jumper Speed Week 3

East Dorset, Vermont — Speed was the word of the day in the grand prix ring at the Vermont Summer Festival. The open jumpers had their $3,000 NAL Open Jumper Speed class today, and the fastest in the class was Jimmy Torano of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, on Marlo. The Vermont Summer Festival is a six-week hunter/jumper competition. Team USA Sits in Fourth Place in Team Show Jumping at XV Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro

Rio de Janeiro—Some 47 Pan American Games show jumpers entered the arena at Deodoro Stadium outside of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Thursday morning to begin the first of two days of team competition. Leading the way for Team USA was rider Lauren Hough aboard Casadora. The last of the four to go was Todd Minikus and Pavarotti. RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL Ian Millar, of Perth, Ontario, took the first step today towards reaching a lofty Olympic goal. In today’s first leg of Pan American Games show jumping competition, the speed phase, only one out of 47 starters was able to negotiate the course faster than 60-year-old Millar on In Style. That entry was his team-mate and former student, Jill Henselwood, of Oxford Mills, Ontario, on Special Ed. The USA has been drawn first to go in tomorrow’s sixth leg of the Samsung Super League with FEI series at Hickstead, England but Melanie Smith-Taylor, who is deputising in the absence of team manager George Morris, is not concerned. With a clear round in the jump off, Molly Ashe-Cawley aboard Cocu claimed victory with a time of 41.57 seconds in the Irish Horse Board International Chase. Sweden’s Peter Eriksson riding Jaguar Mail was also clear and just 0.41 seconds behind. Third place also went to Sweden’s Loota Schultz who on Calibra II was clear in 42.21 seconds. (Read on…)
