KWPN-NA ANNOUNCES 2008 KEURING SCHEDULE
June 4, 2025
Sutherlin, OR-The KWPN of North America, the Dutch Warmblood Studbook, has announced its 2008 keuring schedule. Visitors are invited to the keuringen to watch foals, mares, geldings and stallions being inspected by KWPN judges from the Netherlands and North America. Excitement runs high as breeders hope their bloodstock earns the coveted premiums or predicates. In addition to the usual inspections, judging seminars will be held for the first time in conjunction with several of the keuringen. These seminars will allow participants to get into the judges’ minds to understand how they score conformation, movement, character and jumping technique, among other criteria. Spectators are encouraged (free of charge) to attend a KWPN keuring to learn more about the process. Registration forms for the judging seminars are available from the office.
“Each keuring can be a valuable experience for members and non-members,” said KWPN-NA Chairman of the Board of Directors, Christine McCarthy. “Watching the evaluations of horses from different bloodlines is always a great way to learn.” Not only do the keuringen identify successful bloodlines and ensure the quality of the KWPN horse, the scores will also be used to determine predicates for the dams as well as the KWPN-NA Final Five. These year-end awards are tallied from the scores from all of the keuringen throughout North America. Horses not only compete with the other horses at their keuring, they compete with all the horses in their age group and disciplines throughout North America, the best of these ending up in the Final Five. As a result, a Final Five award is highly desired by breeders and owners.
While keuringen have long been a tradition for KWPN breeders, the judging seminars are an exciting new addition to the process. Participants will learn what the judges are looking for in the horses’ conformation, character, jumping and movement. There’s also the opportunity to gain insight into other criteria the judges use when determining whether a horse is fit for the KWPN predicates. These seminars are an interactive way to ask questions and get answers from some of the world’s top sport horse judges. “Education is a large part of our mission at the KWPN,” McCarthy explained. “We hope that these seminars will be valuable learning opportunities for anyone interested in producing high quality horses.”
