Stewart on top as Upperville gets underway
June 4, 2025
Firm footing and a light breeze greeted Tuesday’s exhibitors and spectators in Upperville. No one could ask for a better two days of showing. The recognized hunter divisions began in the Main Hunter Ring.
Scott Stewart was first and second in the First Year Green Hunters on Richard Prant’s “Castlewalk.” The Weisman’s “West Point” won all three Green Conformation Hunter Classes.
The youngsters were the focus of the day in the Hunter Ring Two. The Three and Four Years olds started the day with Chamonix and Casallo both piloted by Bob Crandall dominated the division.
The 1st Year Pre-Green Hunters were up next. “Blind Faith” owned by Always Farms of Middleburg, VA and ridden by Johnny Barker was Champion of section A. Victoria Clavan’s “Ante-Up” shown by Sandy Ferrell took the Championship ribbon in section B.
Wall of Honor
The Wall of Honor committee acknowledged two well-known hunters of their day. “True Blue” owned by Mrs. Robert Rogers and often ridden by her daughter Penny Denegre, dominated the side saddle division unlike any other horse. He was crowned Champion at the Upperville Colt & Horse Show every year from 1992 through 1998 as well as winning the Under Saddle class in 1989 and 1990, and the Side Saddle Hack
in 1999. “Shinning Hour” earned the most points of any three year old to become Champion in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Owned by Mr. and Mrs. Robert J. Burke, he was Champion at nearly every major horse show during his career.
