Ireland’s Jessica Kurten, the world’s leading female rider, pulled off a brilliant piece of riding to win the £60,000 Rolex FEI World Cup qualifier presented by H & M. She took out strides on Castle Forbes Libertina and simply flew down the arena to beat former dual winner Nick Skelton and Arko by just 0.68sec. Read more
William Whitaker makes Puissance history at Olympia

18-year-old William Whitaker, the youngest rider in the competition, pulled off a sensational victory in the Accenture Christmas Puissance when he was the only one of the three riders in the fifth and final round to clear the 2.16m wall and become the youngest ever winner of the Olympia puissance. It’s Oki Doki for Albert in the Olympia Grand Prix

Dutchman Albert Zoer and his irrepressibly bouncy horse Oki Doki saved the best until last in the Olympia Grand Prix, becoming the fourth Netherlands pair to win in the 33-year history of the competition. Robert Whitaker won his second class of the show with an outstanding performance in the Christmas Eve Six Bar, the only rider to jump clear in the fifth round when the final fence went up to 2m (nearly 6ft 7in). Robert Smith on Ronaldo and France’s Jean-Marc Nicolas (Joal de Madame) both hit the last fence, but Robert Whitaker conjured a prodigious leap from the tall, leggy chestnut Finbarr V, his ride in tomorrow night’s Puissance. After last night’s dressage World Cup qualifier at Olympia, The London International Horse Show, it was unanimously agreed that dressage, both on the international and British stage, has moved into a new era. Anky Van Grunsven, the Olympic, World and European freestyle Champion, presented her brand new freestyle composed by concert pianist Wibi Soerjadi, called ‘Dance of Devotion’ with her golden partner Salinero to take the class by storm and the qualifier, her first this season, by a 7% margin. Funnell takes Eraser Speed Stakes while Robert Whitaker wins Santa Stakes
British riders led the way in The Eraser Speed Stakes at Olympia The London International Horse Show this afternoon, taking the top four prizes.
William Funnell and Denise Stamp’s British bred chestnut mare, Cortaflex Amber du Montois led the way. Funnell covered the course with a clear ride in 48.22 seconds. Tim Stockdale riding Amlin Plus Insurance’s Lou Lou was second crossing the finish line clear in a time of 44.22 seconds. Robert Whitaker and Mandy Hall’s Rusedski II took third place, with a clear in 49.52 seconds. Robert’s father, John finished fourth riding another of Mandy Hall’s string Casino, clocking a clear round in 50.46 seconds. Read more
